Wesak Celebrations 2010

Three important events of the life of Buddha, ie. Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana, occurred on the full moon day of May of Western calendar (15th of April, Lunar month). Therefore this day, known as 'Wesak Day' or 'Buddha Day' is considered as one of the most sacred days in Buddhism.

Buddhists usually celebrate this day with joy and harmony by carrying out various Dharmic activities of generosity, prayers and others in temples and various Dharma places. It is believed that every act of virtue made on this day, the merit will multiply 100,000 times.

An entourage of Lamas are accompanying Ven. Azong Rinpoche have been invited to our centre to celebrate Wesak this year.

Dear Dharma brothers & sisters,

Tashi Delek and here is wishing each and every one of you a very Happy Wesak on 28th May 2010. The Tibetan Wesak Day falls on the 27th May 2010.

1) Wesak Celebrations Led by Venerable Azong Rinpoche (25.5.10 - 8.6.10) We are pleased to announce that Venerable Azong Rinpoche and his entourage, Lama Rikdol and Lama Dorjee Yeshe, together with our own homegrown Anila Yeshe Palmo, will be conducting a series of interesting events for this auspicious month. Rinpoche has been here on several occasions and hence he needs no introduction.
Wesak Day is the most holy day for Buddhists all over the world and will be celebrated with great joy, pomp, observance of precepts and performing charitable acts of kindness in terms of visiting handicap homes, old folks homes etc. This day is also known as the thrice blessed day – signifying The Birth, The Enlightenment and The Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha more than 2500 years ago.
Please find attached the detailed programme and the sponsorship form for your kind attention and participation. Do bring your family and friends for the empowerments, pujas and Dharma talk on the 12 Deeds of Lord Buddha which is very interesting. This talk will be given by Ven. Azong Rinpoche.
His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje has requested everyone in each centre around the world to chant one million recitations of “Om Mani Padme Hung“ collectively and offer our prayers, merits and dedications for a better rebirth to all those who had lost their lives under the recent tragic disasters.

2) 10-Day Teaching on The Jewel Garland of the Sublime Path by Venerable Acharya Khenpo Ramesh. Tentative date mid-June onwards. Dharma teaching by Venerable Acharya Khenpo Ramesh on The Jewel Garland of the Sublime Path for 10 days, every evening from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm. Khenpo-la is one of the most accomplished scholars in the Kagyu lineage. He has the ability to convey the essence of difficult and complex teachings into a simple and approachable manner to his audience.

3) Updating of particulars and mailing preference. To serve you better, kindly update us of any changes to your mailing address, e-mail or phone number(s). For those who have email, please advise whether you would like to receive our news via email. We are trying to save the trees by cutting down on papers and also printing costs for the centre. Your invaluable feedback to kkdskl.newsletter@gmail.com will be most appreciated. Free distribution of Kagyu Dharma - our centre 2nd annual bulletin will be sent to you and it is a full-coloured collectors item. We were honoured to include the teachings of His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa and Shamar Rinpoche in this edition. We welcome any amount of donation for the printing cost, to enable the continuous turning of the dharma wheel for the benefit of all sentient beings and dharma practitioners. In addition, we have some limited edition White Umbrella and Green Tara chakras that have been blessed by many rinpoches and lamas. They are for sale during this special day in order to establish an auspicious dharma connection with all devotees. The proceeds will go to the dharma centre building fund and sangha dana. Do not miss this opportunity to own the chakra for protection and good health. You are most welcome to join our activities during this very auspicious day. Vegetarian lunch will also be served. We are creating our centre very first float for participation in the Wesak Day procession in Brickfields. It is our hope that you can join us in this procession to generate countless merits. Biography of Ven. Azong Rinpoche

Ven. Azong Rinpoche was born in 1974 in Arunchal Pradesh, India. At the age of 19, he was recognized by HH Gyalwang Drukpa, head of the Drukpa Lineage, as the 10th incarnation of Lama Zang.

Azong Rinpoche

Rinpoche received teachings from the late Ven. Kham Ga Rinpoche, Ven. Sangdak Rinpoche, HH Dalai Lama and HH Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche. He completed his studies in the Mahayana sutras and tantras and has gone through many years of retreat on the Kalachakra Yidam. He is the Abbot of the Drukpa Kargyud Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh.

Rinpoche first came to KKDS, KL in 2005 to propagate the Buddha Dharma. He also made an effort to rebuild and restore the Drukpa Kargyud Monastery which is more than 100 years old. There are thirty (30) monks residing in this hermitage. Devotees are welcome to help in the rebuilding and restoration of this Monastery.
